The mercury is rising and the days are getting longer, which can mean only one thing: Spring is on its way! As the heating season comes to a close, it’s the perfect time to plan an annual checkup for your boiler. Taking proper steps to prepare your boiler for the warmer months will help maintain its efficiency and can even extend the life of your system, ultimately saving you time and money during peak warming months. But don’t forget: Hot water and low pressure steam (15 psi and below) only require inspections every two years.
In addition to calling WARE to schedule an annual maintenance appointment, now is the time to check your system for leaks and troubleshoot any operational issues. Over the course of the winter, boilers can accumulate soot and scale which leads to contamination and decreases efficiency. While this contamination is a natural part of the combustion process and does not indicate a problem, it does need to be addressed regularly to ensure your boiler is operating at maximum efficiency.
Major system components should also be thoroughly checked and cleaned, and all valves, pumps, sensors and connectors need to be professionally inspected to ensure safety and viability. Any potential or existing damage to exhaust systems should be identified and repaired before toxic exhaust gases have an opportunity to leak out into occupied spaces.
If your system is reaching the end of its expected lifespan, this is also the time to discuss contingency plans with a WARE professional. We have a fleet of mobile boilers available to meet your needs while your permanent system is replaced. We also offer a large selection of boiler systems for rent or purchase.
